Height Barrier Installed Back

This is a follow-up report regarding the fallen height barrier which occured on 2nd May 2009. A few weeks after that, MPSJ re-installed the height barrier but again was hit by lorries! On 23 June 2009, a JKP 16 member informed us that the height barrier at Persiaran Wawasan-Jalan Serindit link road was finally installed back.

Support beams were welded onto each pillar. The cement base was reinforced.

Additionally, amber blinking light pole was installed to alert motorists in advance while approaching the height barrier.

Heavy vehicles are prohibited from using the link road for safety reasons. The link road was designed for inter-taman link and only meant for motorbikes, passenger cars and light vehicles.

Thanks to MPSJ and JKP 16 for working closely to get the height barrier reinstalled.

MPSJ mulling ways to keep height barrier standing

THE height barrier at the link road between Persiaran Wawasan and Jalan Serindit in Puchong has been knocked down six times in the past few months.

Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) councillor Tan Jo Hann said the culprits were either garbage truck drivers who wanted to dump rubbish illegally, or drivers of heavy vehicles using the road as a shortcut.

“The last time it happened, which was on May 2, the driver of a small truck was trying to get through but it got stuck at the barrier instead.

“The MPSJ had to take down the metal structure, and will issue a summons to the company and the driver for going against the rule,” he said, adding that it cost about RM8,000 to make a new height barrier each time it was destroyed.

“We reuse the structure if possible, but if it’s beyond repair, we have to make a new one,” he said.

As it is a recurring problem, some people have suggested that the 2.4m barrier be removed once and for all.

“I don’t think it’s feasible as the residents will have a hard time putting up with the noise when heavy vehicles ascend the slope.

“The other alternatives we have are to lower the height barrier to 1.9m or to reinforce the structure, perhaps by constructing a thicker cement base so that the height barrier will not fall easily,” Tan said.

He added that some also tried to squeeze through on the road shoulder to avoid driving past the height barrier. “We are also looking at fencing up the road shoulder to prevent them from doing so,” he said.

Gantry Fallen Again At Persiaran Wawasan Link Road

Adalah dilaporkan oleh ahli JKP Zon 16 bahawa ada satu kes kejadian perlanggaran sebuah trak terhadap penghadang kenderaan berat di Persiaran Wawasan, Pusat Bandar Puchong (Zon JKP 16) pada hari Sabtu 2 Mei 2009 ini. Butir-butir adalah berikut:

1) Masa kejadian : lebih kurang 1:30 tengahari. Ahli-ahli JKP mula berhubung melalui telefon berkenaan kejadian ini pada lebih kurang 1:39pm. Langsung ahli JKP bergegar ke tempat kejadian dan mendapati butiran berikat :

2) Hari kejadian : 2 Mei 2009

3) BDM Trak : 4500 kg
BTM Trak : 2100 kg

4) Jenis kenderaan : Mitsubishi Fuso

5) Sketsa kejadian:
Trak datang dari arah Persiaran Wawasan menuju ke jalan pintasan Serindit-Persiaran Wawasan. Semasa melalui penghadang kenderaan berat, trak tersekat di 'leher' kenderaan. Di samping itu, penghadang besi kenderaan diheret oleh 'leher' trak mengakibatkan penhadang besi senget teruk hampir jatuh ke tanah. Kedua-dua konkrit foundation penhadang besi dicabut ke atas akibat perlanggaran itu.

6) Unit respons
Polis tiba di tempat kejadian menolong mengawal traffik. Ahli Majlis Encik Tan Jo Hann yang berada di Bandar Puteri dimaklumkan melalui telefon dan segera pergi ke tempat kejadian. Unit Respons MPSJ juga dipanggil dan bergegar ke tempat kejadian.

7) Kerja pembersihan
Penghadang besi telah dikeluarkan oleh sebuah traktor dan diletakkan di bahu jalan.

Height Barrier At Link Road : Fallen Again

On Thursday 19th March 2009, JKP 16 alerted MPSJ of the tilted height barrier at the link road of Persiaran Wawasan-Jalan Serindit. This height barrier is located on the Wawasan side. It was suspected that a lorry either attempted to forcefully go under the barrier or used the left road shoulder to go inside thus brushing against the barrier. Also the soil mound which was constructed previously to prevent lorries from using the road shoulder was completely flatten!

On Friday evening 20th March 2009, a resident alerted MPSJ hotline that the height barrier had fallen! JKP 16 would like to thank the resident who took the initiative to alert MPSJ in true "our community, our responsibility" spirit.

In the same evening, an MPSJ response team was immediately dispatched to the site to gauge the damage and control/prevent traffic from going in the link road as the barrier has fallen.
